Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: May 13, 2026

Moxie Trail is an independent travel publication. To support our editorial work, we use a small set of revenue sources: display advertising, affiliate links to travel-related products and services, and the occasional disclosed partnership. This page explains how each of those works, what they pay us, and what they do not buy.

Display advertising

The advertising blocks you see on Moxie Trail are served by Google AdSense and possibly other ad networks. We do not control which specific ads appear; the network selects ads based on the page content and your interests. Advertisers cannot place editorial content on the Site, and we do not coordinate ad content with the articles around it. To opt out of personalized advertising, see Google’s Ads Settings.

Affiliate links

Some links on this Site are affiliate links. If you click through and make a qualifying purchase, the destination merchant pays us a small commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate links may appear in articles, in resource pages, and in newsletters. We participate in the following affiliate programs:

  • Amazon Associates (gear, books)
  • Booking.com Partner Program (hotels)
  • SafetyWing and World Nomads (travel insurance)
  • Skyscanner / Kiwi.com (flights, when appropriate)
  • Various tour and activity booking platforms

FTC and similar disclosures

As required by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR Part 255 and similar consumer protection regulations elsewhere, we identify affiliate links where they appear. Articles containing affiliate links will state so near the top of the article. We follow the same approach for our newsletter.

How we choose what to link to

We only link to products and services we would actually use, or that one of our contributors has used directly. Commission rates have no influence on which product gets recommended in an article. If two providers offer comparable products and one pays a higher commission, we describe the trade-offs and let the reader decide.

Sponsored content

If we ever publish a sponsored article, partnership listing, or branded review, it will be labeled clearly with the word “Sponsored” at the top of the article and disclosed inside the post. Sponsored content is not currently part of our regular output, and we do not slip sponsored placements into editorial articles.

What sponsors and advertisers cannot do

  • Pay for placement inside an editorial article.
  • Pre-approve, edit, or veto editorial coverage.
  • Buy a favorable review, ranking, or comparison.
  • Comp a trip in exchange for a guaranteed positive write-up. We do not accept comped trips.
  • Place links inside articles that are not first reviewed and approved by our editorial team.

If something on the Site looks like it crosses one of these lines, please tell us at [email protected]. We will look into it within 2 business days and update this page if needed.
