About Moxie Trail

Moxie Trail is an independent travel publication built around a small editorial team that writes from experience, not press kits. We started the site because most travel writing on the open web is either thinly rewritten hotel marketing or generic listicles that recycle the same fifteen destinations. We wanted a place where the writing started with somebody actually doing the trip, and where the practical details — visa stacks, real costs, how the rental scooter rules work when you do not speak the language — were the point, not the afterthought.

What “Live Boldly, Live Well” means to us

Our tagline is not aspirational. It is operational. Living boldly, for our team, means accepting that good travel comes with friction: missed connections, food poisoning in week two, the awkward conversation with the embassy clerk who is having a bad afternoon. Living well means making decisions on the road that you will still be glad you made six months later, whether that is paying twice as much for a daytime train, walking away from a deal that felt off, or canceling the second leg of the trip because the first one wore you out.

The team

Moxie Trail is written by five contributors who each cover one corner of the travel beat. We do not freelance for tourism boards, take comped trips for coverage, or run sponsored placements inside articles. When we have not been somewhere, we say so and bring in someone who has.

Maya Calderon — Adventure Travel

Maya covers expedition travel: long-distance trails, water expeditions, and trips where the gear list matters more than the itinerary. PCT 2018, Camino del Norte 2021, 23-day Patagonian packraft 2024. Based in Bishop, California.

Sofia Almeida — Solo Travel

Sofia writes about solo travel for people who want slow, deliberate trips rather than backpacker circuits. Travelling alone since 2014, 49 countries. Writes in English and Portuguese. Based in Lisbon.

Marcus Webb — Budget Travel

Marcus is the budget desk. 9 years of trip reports on hostels, mistake fares, airport sleeping, and what cheap travel actually costs once you add it all up. Based outside Denver.

Tara Singh — Travel Tips

Tara writes the practical desk: customs, etiquette, what to do when a flight is rebooked at 2am, what airline rules actually mean. Former corporate travel manager (8 years, 30+ countries). Based in Toronto.

Owen Park — Travel Planning

Owen plans trips that involve real logistics: visas, embassies, multi-country routes, and the parts of trip planning that brochures skip. Former in-house travel architect for a research foundation. Splits time between Seoul and Calgary.

How we work

Each contributor owns their pillar end to end: pitch, research, reporting, and revisions. A second contributor on the team reads every draft before it ships and flags claims that need a source. Posts are dated, names are attached, and when we get something wrong we update the article and note the correction at the bottom of the page. Our full process is documented on the Editorial Standards, Fact-Checking, and Affiliate Disclosure pages.

Who publishes Moxie Trail

Moxie Trail is owned and operated by Mine Marketing LTD, a media company registered in Tel Aviv, Israel. Mine Marketing publishes a small number of independent niche sites. Editorial decisions sit with our contributor team, not with the parent company.
